Maybe Democrats Need the Constitution to Come With Pictures

For more than 200 years, Americans have revered the Constitution as the law of the land, but the GOP and tea party heralding of the document in recent months - and the planned recitation on the House floor Thursday - have caused some Democrats to worry that the charter is being misconstrued as the immutable word of God.

"They are reading it like a sacred text," said Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.)...who argued that the Founders were not "demigods" and that the document's need for amendments to abolish slavery and other injustices showed it was "highly imperfect."

"You are not supposed to worship your constitution. You are supposed to govern your government by it," he said.

So now conservatives are a bunch of religious zealots bowing at the altar of the Constitution? Why? Because we'd rather read it than roll it up and smoke it?

Their reaction to this has been really puzzling, because its not like we're asking Biden read it. I'm sure Boehner will find a someone more capable of being up to the a 5th grader.

Maybe they're just freaking out about reading it because they have a natural fear of the unknown.

Dictatorial?!? Don't treat "czar" like it's a four letter word

A constitution isn't just something people need to withstand the assault that is left-wing politics. Governments need them too! "Progressives" know this, that's the real reason why they're so apopletic about this. They don't want Democrats, much less the country, to be reminded that the Constitution isn't some abstract thing that liberals can invoke like a sort of ideological race card to justify scratching their dictatorial itches.

Reading it would show that there are, in fact, actual rules and guidelines set in it....

There ain't no rules here, we're trying to accomplish something...When the deal goes down...All this talk about rules...we make 'em up as we go along.

-Alcee Hastings (D-FL) on ObamaCare:

To borrow from another Democrat, Congress needs to read the Constitution so they can find out what is in it.

"Under several clauses, the good and welfare clause and a couple others."

-John Conyers defending ObamaCare's constitutionality

Maybe they'd have an easier time with it if the founding fathers included pictures.

Reading the document they are sworn to uphold is no stunt, much less an act of worship. Though I can sort of see why willfully ignorant lefties might see it that way.
